Cello Festival ¦ Counterpoints ¦ Information for Students

Music reflects time and space and reaches out across them. Music is constantly coming up with new, previously unheard of ideas! And the cello plays along. From 28 September to 4 October 2009 we will again be inviting cellists from all over the world to the “world capital of the cello”.

Counterpoints is the theme of the ninth Cello Festival, which explores a whole range of different types of cello expression. Musical thoughts, ideas and flashes of inspiration from the seventeenth to the twenty-first century and from various parts of the (cello) world are tracked down to remote corners and then presented at different venues, compared and contrasted, and built into a process of mutual influence.

Artists giving lessons that are open to the public are: Julius Berger, Patrick Demenga, Thomas Demenga, David Geringas, Gary Hoffman, Miklós Perényi, Ernst Reijseger, Giovanni Sollima, Pieter Wispelwey

We are inviting young cellists from all over the world to join world-class musicians in thrilling concerts and inspiring workshops during this year’s “Counterpoints” Cello Festival. As usual, a global Festival Ticket will give them access to all events.
All students taking part in the Cello Festival can apply for one of these lessons (about 45 minutes) with the artist of their choice. Your application must reach us by 21 August at the latestF.
