Few questions prompting five concise hand-written answers

It was during the final hours after the last concert and the ovations for the soloists  of the 2nd Violin Masterclasses were coming to an end when we asked  Jérôme Benhaim,  a 24-year old violinist from France living in Hamburg, to give us some feedback. Jerome has been an active participant, meaning, he had qualified for 2 lessons of personal teaching with famous violinist Christian Tetzlaff. Jérôme  agreed spontaneously to respond to some 5 short questions. The main goal for the quick interview was to receive some personal thoughts.  Since we knew Jerome from last year´s attendance of our project “Chamber Music Connects the World“, where he was playing and rehearsing with Gidon Kremer and Andras Schiff, it was easy for us to approach him with our request amidst all the other young players and guests in front of the “Posthaus”,  a few meters away from Kronberg´s  “Stadthalle”.

Following are Jérôme´s answers and thoughts on what he had experienced over that one long week in our city.

Q: In your view, what was special about the 2nd Violin Masterclasses and Concerts?

The quality and the number of the teachers. And, the fact that you can listen and learn so much from 4 of the top teachers in the world. And then, yes, the quality of the concerts! The meetings and encounters with the other students were also priceless.

Q: How would you rate the Kronberg Violin masterclasses?

9-10 out of a 10 max rating scale.

Q: What was the greatest learning effect or result that you have experienced?

Opening to lots of different views on music and violin playing.

Q: How do you feel about the city of Kronberg?

Rainy! On the other hand, very enjoyable and also  a great place to practice music. The city is peaceful and warm.

Q: Do you have special personal comments to make?

Except for saying “Thank You” , not really! Maybe 2 lessons are a bit few but we also learned so much from listening that two could be enough.

Thanks, Jerome, for having taken the time during the final hours of the Violin Masterclasses and and providing personal feedback to us!

Michael Heinz
